Duntonian script is developed from the few exemplars known from Alvin R. Dunton (1812, Hope, Maine — October 8, 1891, Camden, Maine), who was said to be one of the most skilled American penmen of the 19th Century.
In this class you will learn the nuances that make Duntonian a unique script, combining the best elements of English Roundhand and American Ornamental Penmanship.
We will aim to not only learn the letter shapes, but also improve the lightness of your touch. Fill out the registration form below to join us and discover this delicate and elegant script!

From the Penman’s Art Journal and Penman’s Gazette - November 1891 (the year of Dunton’s death):
[…] There is not a penman in the country who is unfamiliar with the fame of A.R. Dunton. […] He may be truly called one of the pioneers of modern penmanship, occupying much the same relation to this art in the East as Mr. Platt R. Spencer did in the West and subsequently in the whole country. […]
In those early days [1835] two styles of writing were in use. One of them, most in vogue, was the old English heavy round hand; the other a sharp, angular hand. Mr. Dunton was one of the first to recognize the disadvantages of these styles, especially for business purposes, and from them he constructed a modified style of his own, possessing great advantages in the matter of ease and speed of execution, while preserving a due regard for the quality of beauty. This “A. R. Dunton style,” with slight modifications, he used up to the time of his death, and thousands of writers also make use of it. […]

Sales for Duntonian Delicacy workshop will end on Thursday 3rd April 2025 9pm GMT. Please note that depending on when you buy your tickets, you may miss a live class but will receive recordings and all relevant materials to join in and catch up.
Once you have registered for the class, you will receive an email and a PayPal proforma with the link to finalise your payment.
Once the payment has been processed, you will receive an email with the final confirmation that your seat in class is granted.

The Teacher
Jesús M. is an illustrator and calligrapher with experience in print media such as Reporte Índigo, Diario Deportivo Récord, Notimex, and Global Energy.
Winner of several Award of Excellence by the Society for News Design.
As a calligrapher, he has worked for brands such as Prada, Buchanan’s, Johnnie Walker, and Monte Xanic wines among others.
He is affiliated as a calligrapher with IAMPETH and with AMDI (Mexican Association of Illustrators) as an illustrator and he has taught national and international workshops.
His experience in digital and traditional media allows him to effectively communicate the message the client needs, from the generation of ideas, conceptualization, development, and application in different formats with ink, paint or pixels.
